Updated guidance for car passengers & reopening of cultural events

The next steps out of lockdown

Updated guidance was released by the government on May 22nd regarding the lifting of various sections of lockdown rules that have been in force through the winter months.

Regarding passenger numbers in cars:

Cars up to 7 seats: 3 passengers PLUS the driver, for all categories of vehicle (private hire, taxi, private vehicles, lorries)

Car up to 9 seats: 4 passengers PLUS driver.

Detailed what is valid from today and what will “follow”

On Friday 21st May the summer cinemas opened their doors with a maximum capacity of 75%.

From May 24th, OPAP PLAY shops will open.

On May 28, open air shows and concerts will restart, with a capacity of 50%.

On May 31st gyms are expected to reopen for everyone, with some measures remaining in place to prevent covid transmission.

Scientists are expected to give the “green light” to allow music in restaurants from the beginning of June.

Weddings are allowed from June, with a maximum guest number of 100. There is some hope that this number will be increased.

According to an article published by the GR Times – who contacted the Civil Protection hotline on 213-1510100 to clarify the restrictions that apply to gatherings – the restrictions on gathering at private houses have been quietly lifted.

In restaurants, up to 6 people may sit together at a table. Gatherings larger than that are possible, but still each seated group should be 6 people.

In outdoor urban parks there is no restriction on the number of people who can use the space. These people can listen to music (without causing noise pollution), and the use of a mask & social distancing remains mandatory.

Is there a limit to gatherings in homes?
Over the Easter holidays there was a restriction of up to 9 people allowed to gather, only on Easter Sunday.

When the GR Times reporter asked the Civil Protection office, they stated that there is no restriction on gatherings inside the house.

The curfew is still in place, from 00:30 – 5:30, as well as the requirement to wear masks (inside and out) and ensure social distance.
