Art exhibition “Free Lines” – Chania 15th – 25th October

The art exhibition “Free Lines” (Ελεύθερες Γραμμές) is currently taking place at the Grand Arsenal (Center of Mediterranean Architecture, Venetian Harbour)) in Chania, running from October 15 to October 25, 2026.
Opening Hours:
Weekdays: 09:00 – 15:00 & 18:00 – 20:00.
Weekends: 11:00 – 17:00.
Free entrance. There will be a donation box in support of the Sudan students.

This deeply moving exhibition showcases paintings created by three refugees from Sudan, who are students at the 2nd Second Chance School operating within the Chania Detention Facility.
Through their artwork, the creators express their personal experiences, loss, and difficult journeys, reimagining a world without borders or restrictions.

Once upon a time they had a place they called home.
Then came the road, the sea, a boat, loss, prison.
Today they paint.
They rebuild a world without borders and bars.
And art continues its journey

Lydia

I'm Austrian living in Tavronitis, love nature, music, good books, sunsets, the sea, travelling, socializing and more. I came to Crete as a student in the early 70s, exploring the west and southwest of the island with friends by motorbike. When you are young everything is important and, there are lots of things to do...I did. Job, family, children, travelling the world. But I never lost my love for Crete for a minute. And nine years ago I ended up in this convenient corner of Crete, not only for holidays, but to stay and haven't regretted it for a minute.
