The ballet tells the timeless, tragic story of the fiercely independent gypsy, Carmen, and her intense love triangle. She captures the heart of the soldier Don José, but eventually leaves him for the young bullfighter Escamillo. Driven by destructive jealousy and a clash over Carmen’s unyielding desire for freedom, the plot moves inevitably toward her heartbreaking downfall.
The Balletto di Milano, whose dancers come from the legendary La Scala Academy , is often referred to as the ambassador of Italian ballet and captivates audiences around the world with its artistry and elegance. It has toured successfully throughout Italy and has performed on top stages in the USA, the UK, Ireland, Switzerland, Spain, Germany, Cyprus and more.
Since 1998, the troupe has been directed by the renowned choreographer Carlo Pesta , Knight of the Order of the Italian Republic.
Carlo Pesta studied dance at the Teatro alla Scala School in Milan and at the Moscow Dance School and was a soloist with the La Scala Ballet for many years. Thanks to him, the dancers of the Balletto di Milano reached the highest level of technical perfection.
The style of Balletto di Milano is neoclassicism, enriched with new and unexpected movements of contemporary choreography. The classical basis is maintained, as is the lightness and airy quality of the dancers, the precision of each phrase and the technical perfection.
The performance of Carmen has been considered one of the most original works, with all performances being sold out.
The work’s bold and expressive choreography transcends traditional perception, while the intense lighting and sets give a touch of theatricality that makes the work special.

An immortal story that continues to evoke deep emotions.
A ballet about passionate love.

I'm Austrian living in Tavronitis, love nature, music, good books, sunsets, the sea, travelling, socializing and more. I came to Crete as a student in the early 70s, exploring the west and southwest of the island with friends by motorbike. When you are young everything is important and, there are lots of things to do...I did. Job, family, children, travelling the world. But I never lost my love for Crete for a minute. And nine years ago I ended up in this convenient corner of Crete, not only for holidays, but to stay and haven't regretted it for a minute.
