ΤΟ ΑΡΩΜΑ

About Vasilis Skoulas:
The Cretan music legend, singer and lyra player, was born in Anogeia, Rethymnon, on 3rd February 1946. His family has a long tradition in music and the arts in general. His grandfather, Michalis Skoulas, was a great lyra player of his time and his father Alkibiades Skoulas or Grylios (1902-1996) was a well-known folk painter of Anogeia.

Vasilis Skoulas started learning the lyra at the age of 7 and at the age of 16 he managed to establish himself among the top lyra players and singers of Crete. He has played and sung in a long series of successful artistic, social and cultural performances in America, Canada, Australia and Germany, where there are Greeks and especially Cretans.

He recorded his first album in 1965, which contained short tracks with Thanasis Stavrakakis and Nikos Xylouris, followed by his first personal 33-rpm album in 1969.

Vassilis Skoulas began collaborating with skilled Greek composers of the 1980s, with the album “Sergianisma in Crete”. This was followed by the “Cretan Anthology”, “The songs of Iron and Water” , Yiannis Markopoulos, and many others.

Between 1981-85 he made a series of appearances in Athens at the Park Theater, in the play “Kafenion  Hellas” and also in the theatrical performance of Nikos Kazantzakis’ play “Captain Michalis”, in Greece and abroad .

The course of Vasilis Skoulas changed when in 1995 he participated in two songs in the musical work “Aiolia” by Michalis Nikoloudis, performances which made him turn to artistic Greek singing.

In 2002 a double disc was released with some of his best known hits and covers of various classic Cretan songs and dances.

On 23rd September 2012 Vasilis Skoulas performed successfully at the Herodes Atticus Theatre, which was repeated on 29th September  due to the great resonance.

Vasilis Skoulas maintains the same drive and passion until today, to create and maintain his own performance venue, the well-known “Delina” tavern, in his village, Anogeia. (the Delina Mountain&Spa Resort is also located there)

Lydia

I'm Austrian living in Tavronitis, love nature, music, good books, sunsets, the sea, travelling, socializing and more. I came to Crete as a student in the early 70s, exploring the west and southwest of the island with friends by motorbike. When you are young everything is important and, there are lots of things to do...I did. Job, family, children, travelling the world. But I never lost my love for Crete for a minute. And nine years ago I ended up in this convenient corner of Crete, not only for holidays, but to stay and haven't regretted it for a minute.
