Theatre: “Separations” – Ancient Theatre of Aptera 29th and 30th June

The Ancient Theatre of ApteraAncient Theatre Aptera will once again “come alive” after 17 centuries of theatrical silence. Following its restoration, this unique monument will on Friday, June 29 host a dramatised narration of a rhapsody from Homer’s “Odyssey”, performed by the actors Sofia Hill and Antonis Myriagos accompanied by the musicians Giorgos Kaloudis (lyre) and Ruth Hill ( qanun, kanonaki in Greek).

For those who do not have access to electronic means, a limited number of entrance cards will be distributed at the offices of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Chania from 24th – 28th June.

According to a statement, persons from ancient tragedies who experienced the suffering of the loss of beloved persons,  the “Separation”  presents the first complete theatrical act at the Ancient Theater of Aptera after the excavation and its restoration.
The inspiration for the creation of this theatrical play was the inscription on a tombstone from the 3rd century AD  at the  cemetery of Aptera: ” She suddenly flew away like a wind into the world of the dead”.
