Sfinari e-bike ride programme:

• 10am: start from Kastelli (Kissamos)
• Ride 1½ hour on small, quiet roads along the West coast
• Enjoy the low effort ride while admiring the scenery
• Break in Sfinari beach with swim, drinks and food at local fish taverna
• Ride 1½ hour back to Kissamos with detour through small villages
• Be back to Kissamos for about 3pm, still surprised by how pleasant riding a bike uphill can be!

General description:

Here’s a chance to try electric bikes while exploring the rugged Cretan West coast.
This is an easy cycling route of medium length with little slope and extremely scenic views. It does involve a few hours of pedalling, at reduced effort thanks to the electric motor.
We have some brand-new electric assisted mountain bikes that make cycling on mountainous Crete possible even to the non-fanatic cyclists among us!
We will be cycling exclusively on quiet, paved roads.

Detailed itinerary:

We set off riding off the beaten track through small traditional villages.
After a few km uphill, we join the coastal road that goes along the West coast of Crete. We have great views of the rugged coastline from the top on one side, and of the mountains on the other side.
We descend to Sfinari village and head towards the quiet, pebbly beach.
We jump in the water, weather permitting, and enjoy this unspoiled corner.
We can have some food at the traditional taverna, where fish and seafood is still fished locally.
We ride back with views to the North towards Gramvousa peninsula, the small Mouse island and on clear days Antikythira, Kythira and even the mainland mountains!
We still have the energy to enjoy the surroundings thanks to the motor assistance.
We descend towards Kissamos through back country villages and get back to the start, amazed at how beautiful, easy and close to nature the day out was.

We provide: electric bikes, helmets, the route, guidance and assistance.

You bring with you: a day backpack with water, a snack or some cash for the taverna, sun cream, swimming suit and towel if you want to swim.
