West coast cleaning successful
Last Sunday, with a beautiful clear day, the Beach Cleaning team went to Kokkina Gremna, a beach on the West coast of Crete between Falasarna and Sfinari.
We gathered a good number of people, about 25, and we picked up quite a lot of rubbish washed ashore with the westerly winds.
The challenge was mostly logistical, as the only way down to the beach is by a dirt road followed by a narrow path across the vegetation and the rocks.
We managed to collect 20+ bags of heavy stuff, and we also took them away. Some carried by hand, some carried on long shoulder logs, some by kayak.
There is quite a lot of rubbish still left on the beach. The plan is to find a friendly boat to come with us, so that we can finish the job more easily.
