Opening of Tourism & Culture Festival – Municipality Platanias

Launched by the Municipality of Platanias, yesterday 25th September, the festival started in the morning. This year it takes on a different dimension, making visitors part of the events.

During the first day the guests had the opportunity to visit a vineyard near Vouves and to pick their own grapes, which they did with enthusiasm.

In the late afternoon, which was the beginning of the Festival at the Main Square in Platanias, a winepress was set up, and the visitors could taste products derived from grapes, such as jelly, wine, Petimezi (grape syrup or grape molasses), “koutalites” (the Cretan word for pancakes served with petimezi – it is the  season of the grapes!), raki and a traditional Cretan coffee with treats.

The guests they danced along with the local musicians’ songs, they danced in the street, forming a great human chain.

Lydia

I'm Austrian living in Tavronitis, love nature, music, good books, sunsets, the sea, travelling, socializing and more. I came to Crete as a student in the early 70s, exploring the west and southwest of the island with friends by motorbike. When you are young everything is important and, there are lots of things to do...I did. Job, family, children, travelling the world. But I never lost my love for Crete for a minute. And nine years ago I ended up in this convenient corner of Crete, not only for holidays, but to stay and haven't regretted it for a minute.
