Lighting of the Marathon Torch in Kissamos

Before the first Marathon of Crete – which was held today (Sunday 8th May) in Chania – there was an opening ceremony held in Kissamos on Saturday 7th May.

The torch was carried around Kissamos by a group of local runners, before being taken to the Chania Central Market, accompanied by the Mayors of Kissamos, Apokoronas & Platanias. There was musical accompaniment from the Kissamos Brass Band and traditional music and dancing to celebrate the event.
