1st Marathon of Crete

The first marathon of Crete was held on Sunday 8th May. Approximately 300 runners took part in the marathon. The day started off first with a 42km cycle ride, followed by the marathon runners and then the shorter races set off at staggered start times, from 9am (10km route) to 12am (2.5km route). The main marathon route took runners on a partial circuit around Chania, and then out along the old Kissamos – Chania road until Tavronitis, then back to Chania to complete the city circuit.

The marathon was dedicated to Irineos Galanaki, His Beatitude Metropolitan of Kissamos and Selino.

The fastest marathon finisher – according to results published on the crete-marathon.gr website – was Emmanouel Sifakis, with a race time of 2:45:24. Finishing times ranged from 2:45:24 to 5:57:50
