Refugee experience talk, Kissamos – 3 February

Refugee experience talk

Wednesday 3rd February at 11am at Aretousa Taverna, Kissamos Seafront
I will be giving a talk about my father’s experience as a refugee in WW2, to raise awareness and funds for the refugees in Lesvos.  There are volunteers from Crete going to Lesvos in February to help out.  The funds raised will go to this group.  See their Facebook page at  https://www.facebook.com/groups/ChaniaHelpsRefugees/?fref=nf
My father was taken from Poland at the age of 13, along with thousands of others to Soviet work camps,  When the Soviets released them, these refugees had to make their way to Iran,  – some to fight alongside the allies, others to be moved to refugee camps in Africa.  I recently discovered an essay he had written age 14 when he was in the middle east.
I am going to suggest a donation of 2 euro per person.  Any more will be gratefully accepted!
Also if you have any gloves, socks, hats or scarves, these are desperately needed.
Thanks Vanessa

    Hi Vanessa,
Heart-warming to hear this! we are a couple from Sitia, Crete, who spent 6 weeks in Lesbos in November December and are going back mid-February. I am the daughter of WW2 Polish Jewish refugees…
We volunteered alongside Lifeguards Hellas who are originally from Chania.

I’ve looked at the Facebook pages – amazing work. What I’m doing is nothing in comparison. The talk went very well and we raised 170 euro and collected lots of clothes. I’ll send a personal message to your Facebook page.

    Vanessa
