The “Mikis Theodorakis” Folk Orchestra was created in May 1997 by musicians-collaborators of the composer, connoisseurs of his work.

The Orchestra’s first appearance took place at the Aixoni Theater in Glyfada, in June 1997.

Since then, the Orchestra has been performing many concerts, collaborating with both established and younger artists.

They have performed in theaters, stadiums, open spaces throughout Greece and on music stages, from Athens to the most remote villages in Greece, as well as in many countries abroad.

The orchestra also collaborated with symphony orchestras and choirs, often under the direction of Mikis Theodorakis.

Furthermore, the Orchestra participates in events for peace, the fight against racism and drugs, prisoners, the organization “Doctors Without Borders”, with the aim of raising awareness of social issues.

The Orchestra’s goal is to highlight the entire work of Mikis Theodorakis and tries to achieve this in various ways, such as concerts, performances, television appearances and recording albums.
It is also the promotion of and familiarization with the work of important poets, such as Yannis Ritsos, Odysseas Elytis, Manolis Anagnostakis and many others.

Finally, their effort is to highlight the connection between folk and lyrical works with the composer’s symphonic music.

I'm Austrian living in Tavronitis, love nature, music, good books, sunsets, the sea, travelling, socializing and more. I came to Crete as a student in the early 70s, exploring the west and southwest of the island with friends by motorbike. When you are young everything is important and, there are lots of things to do...I did. Job, family, children, travelling the world. But I never lost my love for Crete for a minute. And nine years ago I ended up in this convenient corner of Crete, not only for holidays, but to stay and haven't regretted it for a minute.
