In the presence of thousands of spectators and accompanied by 400 musicians, André Rieux, the conductor of the Johann Strauss Orchestra, presented Greek carols performed by the Greek soprano Christina Petrou.

A few days ago, the audience at his performance in Maastricht, the Netherlands, enjoyed Christina Petrou, who was accompanied by musicians Haris Laurisen and Panos Dimakis with their bouzouki, singing “Good day, lords”.

André Rieux introduced the Greek soprano in a special and humorous way. “You all know the custom of children going from door to door singing Christmas carols to give them sweets. In America they sing on Halloween, in Germany on St. Martin’s Day and in Greece on Christmas. Fortunately, I have a Greek singer in my choir. And she likes sweets,” she said, with the audience laughing.

“It’s a very nice and simple song that if you listen to it enough times, then you will be able to sing it with us. And if you sing it well, you will also win some sweets!” she added, smiling.

The audience enjoyed Ms. Petrou’s performance, which they applauded warmly.

I'm Austrian living in Tavronitis, love nature, music, good books, sunsets, the sea, travelling, socializing and more. I came to Crete as a student in the early 70s, exploring the west and southwest of the island with friends by motorbike. When you are young everything is important and, there are lots of things to do...I did. Job, family, children, travelling the world. But I never lost my love for Crete for a minute. And nine years ago I ended up in this convenient corner of Crete, not only for holidays, but to stay and haven't regretted it for a minute.
