Alexandra Kuroutakis, the curator, points out:
“The exhibition includes 37 photographic works by G. Balladaki sorted and presented in 5 thematic units bearing the titles: “Hidden portraits”, “Mythology”, “Pencil Vs Camera”, “Abstract Expressionist photos” and “Chaotic Knits”. The main objectives of the research study were to highlight the creative and experimental character of selected photosynthesis by G. Baladaki and the presentation of his eclectic approach at the level of style and techniques.

The selection of works was based on the originality of the subjects, the illusion of the iconography, the innovative directorial – stage framing, the artistic function of photography as an “expressive medium”, the affinity that it develops with the searches of Modern and Contemporary art and the experimentation of the creator in relationship with shooting techniques and digital processing of photosynthesis.

The ability of G. Baladaki to provoke intellectual contemplation and thrill viewers with his visually interesting, deconstructed, enigmatic and conceptually rich photographs places him in the realm of modern, postmodern conceptual art, with clear influences from Pop art, Surrealism, Cubism and Abstract American Expressionism.

Lydia

I'm Austrian living in Tavronitis, love nature, music, good books, sunsets, the sea, travelling, socializing and more. I came to Crete as a student in the early 70s, exploring the west and southwest of the island with friends by motorbike. When you are young everything is important and, there are lots of things to do...I did. Job, family, children, travelling the world. But I never lost my love for Crete for a minute. And nine years ago I ended up in this convenient corner of Crete, not only for holidays, but to stay and haven't regretted it for a minute.
