World Poetry Day : poetry and music – Venizelos Conservatory in Chania 21st March

The Association for the Promotion of Fine Arts in Crete, on the occasion of the celebration of World Poetry Day, is organizing for the first time a special event at the Venizelio Conservatory of Chania on
Friday, March 21, at 19.00 in the “Manolis Skouloudis” hall.

Through this event, the Association wants to highlight as much as possible the purpose of the establishment of the Venizelos Conservatory 100 years ago, which was and is to this day the teaching, support and promotion of all fine arts and letters, simultaneously, through the Venizelos Conservatory.

The symbolic and brief meeting of music and poetry within the framework of this global celebration highlights the value of both but also the issue of their relationship, which is multidimensional, old and at the same time new, current.

The Association’s administration, wanting to highlight and emphasize this relationship as much as possible, chose to frame the event with speakers from renowned professors of the Department of Philology of the University of Crete, who enthusiastically accepted the invitation to participate, as well as students who will recite their poetry.

The event will also have a carefully curated musical accompaniment with the participation of distinguished professors of the Venizelio Conservatory, in singing and on musical instruments.

Students of the creative writing workshop that has been operating at the conservatory for two years, under the direction of a special philologist professor, will present a special poetic creation, Blackout poetry.

Admission for the public is free.

I'm Austrian living in Tavronitis, love nature, music, good books, sunsets, the sea, travelling, socializing and more. I came to Crete as a student in the early 70s, exploring the west and southwest of the island with friends by motorbike. When you are young everything is important and, there are lots of things to do...I did. Job, family, children, travelling the world. But I never lost my love for Crete for a minute. And nine years ago I ended up in this convenient corner of Crete, not only for holidays, but to stay and haven't regretted it for a minute.
