Chania Music Festival – 12th, 13th and 14th October
Contemporary Greek music meets international trends which combine classical elements with electronic, piano, experimental, minimalist and traditional, as well as with field recordings and/or compositions. The festival remains open about style, always driven by quality, aesthetics, inspiration, innovation, creativity and love of creators. It undertakes a wandering into new, uncharted soundscapes, where boundaries are crossed in a constant discovery – re-creation, by gifted visionary musicians with endless passion, tirelessly dedicated to their beloved art.

WHERE: Mikis Theodorakis Theater in Katechaki Square , Venetian harbor of Chania
Tickets: available on the festival website, €12 (1st day), €15 (2nd day), €10 (third day) and €33 (three days).
At the entrance they will cost €13, €16 , €11 and €36 respectively.
Audience attendance, 1 hour prior start times. Doors close 10 minutes after start times!

Saturday October 12, 21:00
Greek-born Hior Chronik, who resides in Berlin, in addition to presenting his new work (which was released in May 2024), will perform versions of his pieces for piano.

Sofi Paez, from Costa Rica who also lives in Berlin, as part of her tour for her debut album “Silent Stories” will perform at the Chania Music Festival, her only stop in Greece.

The Chaniotissa with an international musical career Sofia Sarri, who lives in Athens, will sing accompanied by a quartet, which consists of: Katerina Tepelena (violin), Petros Lampridis (double bass), Giorgos Kontogianni (Cretan lyre) and Kostas Stergiou (piano).

The composer of contemporary music Petros Perakis from Chania will present for the first time his work “The Primadonna Melpo”, with Eleni Papaspyrou on the piano.
22.00:
The well-known Athenian composer Nikos Kypourgos will conduct a quartet, soloists and choir to perform selected pieces from his work. The quartet consists of: Despina Vaigoussi (cello), Spyros Vaigoussi (piano), Lefteri Vaigoussi (violin) and Nikos Lappa (wind instruments). Elita Kounadis, Alexia Katsanevaki, Akis Pitsanis and the Cantilena choir, under the direction of Giorgos Kaloutsis, sing.

Dalot (Maria Papadomanolaki) from Chania, will present her new work. Recordings from the cities she has lived in for the last 15 years form the basis of an atmospheric journey through time accompanied by live electronics and piano.

The composer and producer Christos Garbidakis from CHania will present for the second time his work “Memory”, a cycle of his compositions in poetry by Eleni Marinakis, Leonidas Kakaroglou, Kostas Koutsourelis, Giorgos Ktistakis, Yiannis Karterakis, Irenes Lagoudakis and himself, with him in piano, singing and reciting and Aphrodite Stratis in singing, reciting and vocals.

14:00: Film Music Workshop, with Nikos Kypourgos.

The Chania Music Festival is the vision realised by the musician Christos Garmpidakis (also known as Christos Garmpidakis Dergar), who has composed and released many personal albums and works for dance and cinema, and has collaborated with musicians from Greece and abroad. Sofia Mavroudi, art curator and producer of artistic events in Stockholm, Athens and Chania, assists in the implementation as responsible for the organization of the production and design of the festival’s website
Co-organisation: FAir Productions Christos Garmpidakis, the Region of Crete and the Municipality of Chania for the second year, this year with the subtitle “2”.
