CELEBRATION OF THE NATIONAL ANNIVERSARY of 28th October 1940 (OXI Day) in Kissamos

SUNDAY OCTOBER 27, 2024

17:30 Vespers at the Metropolitan Church of the Evangelization of Theotokos.

 MONDAY, OCTOBER 28, 2024

1. At 07:00 The Philharmonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Kissamos “Ireneos Galanakis” and a choir of city residents will sing the eothino (το εωθινό – ancient Greek,  prayers at dawn) in the city of Kissamos.

2. 07:00 the church bells will ring joyfully.

3. 07:00-10:00. Divine Liturgy at the Metropolitan Church of the Evangelization of Theotokos.

4. 10:30   Doxology at the Metropolitan Church,  follow ed by a speech on the importance of the anniversary by Mrs. Xirouhaki Irene Chrysovalantis, teacher of Drapanias Elementary School.

5. 11:30   Memorial service at Tzanakaki Square, laying wreaths, observance of a minute’s silence, National Anthem by the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Kissamos.

6. 12:00 Parade of student sections, clubs and associations in Skalidi Street, in the presence of the city authorities. The parade will be escorted by the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Kissamos.

Cretan dances  by dance groups will follow at Tzanakaki Square.

I'm Austrian living in Tavronitis, love nature, music, good books, sunsets, the sea, travelling, socializing and more. I came to Crete as a student in the early 70s, exploring the west and southwest of the island with friends by motorbike. When you are young everything is important and, there are lots of things to do...I did. Job, family,children, travelling the world. But I never lost my love for Crete for a minute. And nine years ago I ended up in this convenient corner of Crete, not only for holidays, but to stay and haven't regretted it for a minute.
