Rokka Festival – Full Moon Concert, Rokka 19th August

The ROKKA full moon concert – a unique experience, bringing together music and cultures from all over the world, under the Cretan sky and the light of the full moon. The Rokkas Festival 2024 will be a celebration of music, tradition, and the unity of peoples.

2024 is a landmark year for the Rokka Festival, as they collaborate for the first time with the National Opera.

In this year’s event, entitled “Music of the World and Crete in the Full Moon” of the Cultural Associations of Rokka and Kera, also the Vamos Orchestra, the Aeolos Woodwind Quintet and the Chores, with soloists Tassos Apostolou and Zacharias Karounis, are performing.

The musical program of the concert was edited by the Vamos Orchestra, while the new orchestrations of the works are signed by the orchestra’s musical director, Thanasis Papathanasiou. The selection of the musical works, the new orchestrations and the selection of the musical ensembles performing in the open sky of Archaia Rokka was completed by the Vamos Orchestra with the personal help and advisory care of the composer and Artistic Director of ELLS, Giorgos Koumentakis. Chores is directed by Christina Poupalou. Alexia Katsanevaki – vocals.

The Rokka festivities continue to evolve, keeping perpetual change as a constant. Within ten years, the Rokka Festivals have made significant progress, attracting thousands of visitors and hosting hundreds of artists. The festival has left a strong artistic imprint in the Chania area, creating partnerships with other festivals and international organizations.

For the next decade, the events of the villages of Rokka and Kera  will change concerning  duration and content. From 2024, the Rokka Festival will organize every year the musical evening , the full moon concert, at the archaeological site of Rokka. 
Every second year, the festival will return with a host of activities, such as workshops, concerts and theater performances.
