It is the first time that the leading Greek marine painter, Constantine Volanakis, ‘returns’ to his native island of Crete. The 57 works of the painter of imperial triumphs, glorious moments in Greek history and humble fishing boats make up the exhibition “Constantine Volanakis: Nostos of the Sea: works from the collection of the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation.
Foundation”, which is to be held at the Municipal Gallery of Chania, from 21th July to 31th December 2023,under the auspices of the H.E. President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou. The exhibition also includes oil paintings belonging to the Naval Headquarters, the Greek Parliament and the Bank of Greece.

I'm Austrian living in Tavronitis, love nature, music, good books, sunsets, the sea, travelling, socializing and more. I came to Crete as a student in the early 70s, exploring the west and southwest of the island with friends by motorbike. When you are young everything is important and, there are lots of things to do...I did. Job, family, children, travelling the world. But I never lost my love for Crete for a minute. And nine years ago I ended up in this convenient corner of Crete, not only for holidays, but to stay and haven't regretted it for a minute.
