Water scarcity -CALL ON CITIZENS TO REDUCE WATER USE – Press release Municipality of Kissamos

Due to the long dry spell, as well as the high temperatures, there is a low level of the springs as well as the wells, resulting in a serious lack of water. The Municipality of Kissamos, expressing its concern, is “ringing a bell” for consumers, clarifying that the rational use of water is imperative in order to avoid serious water shortage phenomena.

Since it is necessary to respond to the smooth water supply of the entire Municipality, we should all reduce the consumption of water we use for domestic use to the minimum possible.

According to the Municipality’s water supply regulation, unnecessary waste will result in penalties, according to the existing legislation and the above regulation.

As far as irrigation is concerned, we call on the citizens to postpone or at least reduce to a minimum the irrigation of the olive trees until at least August 15, when the situation will be re-evaluated.

It is imperative that all of us understand that the management of water, the most precious commodity is a collective effort of both the municipal water supply services and the consumers themselves.

I'm Austrian living in Tavronitis, love nature, music, good books, sunsets, the sea, travelling, socializing and more. I came to Crete as a student in the early 70s, exploring the west and southwest of the island with friends by motorbike. When you are young everything is important and, there are lots of things to do...I did. Job, family, children, travelling the world. But I never lost my love for Crete for a minute. And nine years ago I ended up in this convenient corner of Crete, not only for holidays, but to stay and haven't regretted it for a minute.
