Exhibition: Hellenism in France in the 19th century – Chania 14th to 28th November

The aim of the Hellenic-French Association is, through painting, music, literature, poetry, theater, folk art, the work of the Scientific Mission of Morea, the Committees of the Philhellene Fighters,  to highlight the importance of Philhellenism on the part of France, a movement that contributed to the success of the Greek Revolution, and consequently to the creation of the new Greek state.

The members and the Board of the Hellenic-French Association, Stavros Kalaitzoglou, Eleftheria Karagianni, Stella Koutsoupaki, Fotini Kostaki, Manolis Dourountakis, Gina Pavlaki-Kalogeri, Grigoris Tzanakis, have carried out research work for months and  they present great informative and educational visual material.
The original presentation was realized by the graphic designer and writer Eleni Vougioukalaki-Birbili, under the supervision of the president Stella Koutsoupaki and the museologist and art historian Myrtos Kontomitaki.

Programme of the opening event:

  • Lecture by Dr. Anastasia Tsagaraki “The contribution of the French Philhellenes and their contribution to the formation of the new Greek State”.
  • Recital with musical works by French Philhellene composers of the 19th century, with Panos Giambouldakis (tenor) and Evanthia Kyriazidou (piano)

The event is held under the auspices of the French Embassy, ​​the French Institute of Greece, the Greece 2021 Commission and with the support of the Society of Hellenism and Philhellenism and the Museum of Philhellenism.
