For those who do not know the Cretan musician Ilias Horeftakis:

Ilias Horeftakis was born to Stefanos and Anastasia in Horeftiana near Chania, Crete, in 1972.  He ‘fell in love’ with music at a very early age, following a family tradition and the example of his grandfather Nikos Harhalis. He started violin lessons at the age of 12 with Michalis Kounelis.
Kostas Papadakis, also known as “Naftis” (sailor),  taught Ilias not only the art, but also the history and origins of the Cretan music.
Ilias played his first glendi  (Greek cultural festival) at the age of 13. Since then, he has performed repeatedly throughout Crete and the rest of Greece, as well as in the United States on many occasions.  His first album, “Paraxena minimata” (Strange messages), was released in 1998.

I'm Austrian living in Tavronitis, love nature, music, good books, sunsets, the sea, travelling, socializing and more. I came to Crete as a student in the early 70s, exploring the west and southwest of the island with friends by motorbike. When you are young everything is important and, there are lots of things to do...I did. Job, family, children, travelling the world. But I never lost my love for Crete for a minute. And nine years ago I ended up in this convenient corner of Crete, not only for holidays, but to stay and haven't regretted it for a minute.
