Cinema: Documentaries – Chania 24th to 26th September
The screenings of documentaries partially or completely shot in Crete take place at the Municipal Garden Cinema ‘Kipos’ (open air cinema) in Chania, from 24th until 26th September.
Entrance: free, but you have to book this free ticket online (‘Κάντε Κράτηση Εισιτηρίου’)
Friends of documentaries have the opportunity to watch films that have been partially or completely shot in Crete. Two film portraits, themes of our local history, the role of music among the peoples, the relationship of the Cretans with other peoples, the antiquities of our city and the much-discussed vendettas are themes presented in the documentaries that will be screened during these days.

21:00 ‘Primitive Voice’ (Πρωτόγονη Φωνή )
A small village hosts an annual music workshop, deep in the mountains of Crete. There, Fady, a Syrian – Lebanese traveler, discovers the sound of the lyre. A quest to rethink what lies beyond our identity and origins, a time travel through the most powerful language in humankind. Music. (22′)

About Karolos:
Panagiotis Kampelopoulos , born in Cairo, Egypt in 1931. Second son of Greek parents, Chris, originating from Heraklion Crete and mother Anastasia, from Smyrna.
He is perhaps one of the greatest personalities in the field of hairdressing and sculpture of the 20th century

His mother died in 1941
He left Cairo for France in 1951
Was hailed in France as a hairdresser in 1961

Works in Paris until 1991

21.00 Alastor, directed by Menios Carayannis in 2021
The film examines the need and roots of revenge. Despite laws and moral values, the concept of vendetta remains alive. Logic is seldom able to tame the demon of revenge, who in ancient Greece had a name: Alastor. Live interpretations of ancient Greek tragedies are intertwined with current events and experiences, seeking an answer to the torturous question: Why do we kill each other?
DocStories Regional Action Documentary Days is organized by the Cultural Center of Crete, in co-organization with the Region of Crete – Regional Unit of Chania, the Municipality of Chania and KEPPEDIH KAM.
