Tragic death of local resident

Local resident, Helen Mander, sadly died on Thursday 22nd July.
She drowned while swimming at Drapanias beach.

She leaves behind her husband, Frank, and their family of 2 daughters, 2 sons, their respective partners and her 9 grandchildren. The family ask for privacy while they mourn.

Helen’s funeral will be held at the church in Voulgaro at 11am on Friday 30th July, followed by the burial around midday at the church of Constantine and Eleni, close by.

Please wear bright colours and avoid black, as she requested. We are deeply mourning her loss, but also want to respect what she wanted and honour the colourful, bright person that she was in life.

Helen had a huge affection for animals, referring to her own four as her furry children! Through her years in Crete she has rescued, fostered and adopted many abandoned puppies.

The family are raising funds for Amber’s Hope Animal Rescue – Crete in memory of Helen. This is the charity that she supported, which takes in and re-homes dogs from across the island to other parts of Europe.
