Not just a masterpiece, but a milestone in the history of cinema and a reflective round of triumph for the cinematic medium that culminates in the unforgettable dance of reconciliation.
Guido Anselmi, a director who is going through a critical period in his personal and artistic life, is tormented by fantasies and obsessions related to his universal education, his relationship with sex and women and the search for meaning in his work.
Images from the film that is being shot are confused with nightmares, but all this confusion of reality and fantasy ends up in a happy fanfare, where everything makes sense.
The film won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and the Academy Award for Best Costume Design (for black and white film). Recognized as an avant-garde film and a highly influential classic, it was among the top 10 British Film Institute (BFI) films of all time, finishing third in a 2002 poll by BFI directors. It is also in the collection of the 45 best Vatican films made before 1995, the 100th anniversary of cinema. Today it is considered one of the best movies of all time.
