Defibrillator installed in Tzanakaki Square, Kissamos

Warm thanks from Kissamos residents & visitors go to the Ioannis S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation for the donation of an Automatic External Defibrillator, which was installed in Tzanakaki Square, Kissamos on 29th July.

The Greek Red Cross group of Kissamos and the Holy Metropolis were present for the installation. A blessing ceremony was held and a demonstration of the correct use of the device by the Red Cross volunteer group.

The importance of the device was emphasised in the speech by the director of the local Health Centre of Kissamos, Manolitsa Nikolakaki-Kataki. As she explained, its use in the first five minutes of a heart attack can be life-saving for the patient.

Training seminars on the use of the defibrillator for the business owners of the area as well as any others who are interested will be held in the near future.

The donation of the Latsis Foundation, as part of the action “Strengthening Public Health”, and implemented by the Annousakeio Foundation, included donations to the Health Centers of Kissamos and Kantanos as well as to all Regional Rural Clinics the following equipment: 4 ECG machines, 11 blood pressure meters plus 19 electronic blood pressure meters, 25 oximeters, 24 otoscopes, set of suturing tools, maternity examination bed plus other consumable medical supplies. In addition, 1 more defibrillator was delivered to the Kissamos Fire Department, 10 complete First Aid kits were provided for the vehicles of the Kissamos Police Department and one further defibrillator to the Public Health & Social Welfare Directorate of Chania. At the beginning of June, the Annousakeio Foundation offered, in addition, to a portable radiology machine to the Health Centre of Kissamos.
