Art exhibition “SITE” – Chania until 10th September

The exhibition includes new installations, older site-specific work, drawings, prints and sculptures by Chris Gianakos.

Chris Gianakos invites the viewer to enter his world of ongoing studies of interventions, either between materials and a specific place, or as an investigation of the basic formal structure of ancient sites – their geometry and their foundation on mathematical calculations.
About the artist:

Chris Gianakos (1934) grew up in New York City, with parents coming from the area around Kissamos, Chania. He is part of the post-Minimalism movement and has more than 50 site-specific installations both in Europe and the United States on his CV, numerous solo-exhibitions as well as his work in public collections, such as MoMA in New York. He lives and works in New York and in Chania.

I'm Austrian living in Tavronitis, love nature, music, good books, sunsets, the sea, travelling, socializing and more. I came to Crete as a student in the early 70s, exploring the west and southwest of the island with friends by motorbike. When you are young everything is important and, there are lots of things to do...I did. Job, family,children, travelling the world. But I never lost my love for Crete for a minute. And nine years ago I ended up in this convenient corner of Crete, not only for holidays, but to stay and haven't regretted it for a minute.
