1st International Poetry Festival of Chania: – Chania 5th and 6th September
Two days of bilingual events, poetry readings, creative workshops for adults and children, and photography exhibition.
The Chania International Poetry Group welcomes the prize-winning English poet and playwright Alyson Hallett and Greek poet/photographer Kyriakos Syfiltzoglou, and invites you to attend the 1st International Poetry Festival of Chania, including workshops for children and adults as well as a photography exhibition.

The Festival brings the two poets into a creative dialogue over two days of bilingual events (English – Greek):
poetry readings, creative workshops for adults and children, and a parallel photography exhibition entitled ‘Possibility of blood’, by Kyriakos Syfiltzoglou.
Syfiltzoglou’s photographs explore the aesthetics of seemingly worthless materials transformed into poetic fossils through the gaze of the poet in his pilgrimage through deserted houses of the area of Drama in northern Greece.
PROGRAMME IN DETAIL:
Thursday 5 Sept
11.00 – 13.00 Children’s creative workshop. Multilingual (English, French, German). All children welcome.
19.00 – 21.00 Readings and discussion by the two invited poets, Alyson Hallett and Kyriakos Syfiltzoglou, followed by reception sponsored by Manousakis wines and Cretan Brewery. Translations into Greek and English will be provided.
Friday 6 Sept
11.00-13.00 Poetry workshop for adults, given by Alyson Hallett. Open to everyone. Beginners and experienced poets alike. Come and enjoy new ideas and perspectives and being creative. (There will also be the possibility of 1:1 sessions with Alyson, contact Wendy Everett (chatophile@gmail.com) for details.)
19.00-21.00 Readings by the Chania International Poetry Group, followed by Open Mic which is entirely multilingual. Everyone is welcome to take part.
Followed by a reception, as for previous evening.
