Loud and alarming environmental message by 15-year-old Haniotisa: “Where have good manners and upbringing gone?” – The truth about bad environmental habits.

Where have good manners and upbringing gone with regard to your environmental habits??
Take the time, please, to read this open letter of Georgia Inglezaki!

“I ask you to rethink your actions and to begin one step at a time to change the world. Start recycling, if you find trash on the street pick it up and leave the excuses. Try to reduce the plastic in your life. We are all to blame for what is happening but we can still be saved ” – a loud and alarming environmental message of environmental alert,  sent by 15-year-old Haniotisa Georgia Inglezaki, who in her letter to the “Haniotika Nea” tells the truth about the bad habits we have in Chania regarding recycling and the environment.
With youthful spontaneity and anger stemming from the need to protect her own future, Georgia’s writing is disarming.

“Dear neighbor,
yes, I am talking to you who pretend to be an educated person. I don’t see, however, where your education is when you throw rubbish just on the road and leave the place then  as if you were innocent.
If you were  innocent,  you would collect the rubbish you accidentally found on the road.
Dear neighbor, you say you want your house clean and that is why you take out your rubbish every day to throw it away. The recycle bin (blue) and the rubbish (green) are side by side. Literally, the distance between them is three steps.  Your bin is only 10 steps away from your home and you can’t dispose of your rubbish in the right way? We all know that recycling is not about dumping rubbish bags.

Dear neighbourRecycled items must be disposed of correctly, without the bag in which you carried the times. For some, however, this is something they do not understand. I will say okay you didn’t know this, maybe you haven’t heard about  it, but you definitely  know how to read the big letters on the bins: “RECYCLING”, “Rubbish bin”.
So how do some get confused and throw away the rubbish  that is meant for the recycling bin? How is that possible; Do we need to put up a light for you to figure out where to dump your trash? I am not saying all this to make you feel bad, I say it because it is unfair to me to do recycling, my recycling no longer counts because the recycle bin has become yet another trash bin.
Also, dear neighbor, why is there a small dump between these two bins?  If it doesn’t fit into  the bin, at least make sure it is next to it, in a well closed bag, and not thrown around. Put it next to the bin so that the garbage  truck passing at night can see the garbage and collect it.
Equally – you will also facilitate the lives of these employees.
It is unfair to them and to the planet. But you say you don’t think about me but you still want your home to be clean, why are you messing it up even more?
Why do you throw trash  your only home? Why dumping  trash on Earth? The one who created you? The one that feeds you?
Yes, I talk about Mother Earth  who is crying every day because her children abuse her and take her for granted.
On your small screen, whether it is your computer or your TV or your mobile phone, you see pictures of the seas of the world, junk, turtles dying from the plastic that you threw into the sea. Seagulls die and have microplastics on their bellies.

Do you think this doesn’t apply to you? Do you think, dear friend, neighbor, that this is not up to you, not even in the least? We live in a country that is embraced by the sea whether we like it or not, and that is the reason for tourism and we feed it.
Next time, then, when you sit down to eat your fish in your taverna and post it on Facebook: “The cannibal user is having a good time at  Vangelis Fish Tavern”, think about what the fish  may have eaten before you got them on your plate.
How much plastic has been eaten by mistake? And if that doesn’t remind you of something then the phrase climate change will surely remind you.
Does this remind you of something? It’s something that will deprive you of 12 years of life i(maybe less) if we keep going.
And as you saw, I include myself in this disaster.
So I ask you to rethink your actions and begin one step at a time to change the world. Start recycling, if you find trash on the street pick it up and leave the excuses. Try to reduce the plastic in your life. We are all to blame for what is happening but we can still be saved. “

I'm Austrian living in Tavronitis, love nature, music, good books, sunsets, the sea, travelling, socializing and more. I came to Crete as a student in the early 70s, exploring the west and southwest of the island with friends by motorbike. When you are young everything is important and, there are lots of things to do...I did. Job, family, children, travelling the world. But I never lost my love for Crete for a minute. And nine years ago I ended up in this convenient corner of Crete, not only for holidays, but to stay and haven't regretted it for a minute.
