MET New York in Chania: “Cosi Fan Tutte” (recorded), 9th July
Mozart’s “Cosi fan tutte” was originally set in 18th-century Naples, but Prelim McDermott’s production is set in a 1950s-era Coney Island amusement park. It is McDermott’s vision of Mozart’s comedy about the sexes, set in a carnivalesque, funhouse environment inspired by 1950s Coney Island—complete with bearded ladies, fire eaters… .
The Metropolitan Opera’s new production of “Cosi Fan Tutte” uses sideshow and burlesque performers.
