“EUROPE 2030 – rediscovering the city on water”. Annual lecture Chania 14th June

The Municipality of Chania and the CAM (Center of Mediterranean Architecture ) invite you to the annual lecture of the CAM on Europe 2030- rediscovering the city on water Europe 2030: “Reinventer la ville sur l’eau “.

The lecture will be in Greek and French with simultaneous translation.

The speakers will be the distinguished architects – planners Yannis Tsimis and Christianne Mazzoni – Architectural Office CMYT.

For many years, the urban fronts of the cities, the cities on rivers and lakes have been the main themes of urban planning: Barcelona, ​​Genoa, Shanghai, Rotterdam, Bordeaux, Dougherk, etc. More and more municipalities are proclaiming architectural transcriptions and doing works either for the restoration of the abandoned areas which were of economic importance (harbors, railway lines, warehouses, shipyards, etc.) or to correct unpleasant conditions as a result of tourism growth. How are the different scales, landscapes and different urban planning schemes designed to bring the city to revive the water?

 

The lecture will present the theoretical and practical experience of architects and planners of the CMY office, which was founded in 2008 by Christianne Mazzoni and Yiannis Tsiomis with seats in Paris and Shanghai.

 

Giannis Tsiomis is Architect – Planner, Director of Studies at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales – Paris, Professor of Architecture and Urban Planning at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Paris – La Vilette, Member of the French Academy of Architecture, Scientific Adviser of the Le Corbusier Foundation. He has been awarded the French Academy of Architecture Award for his scientific, educational and architectural work (2012), with the GUBBIO 2002 International Prize for Architectural and Urban Heritage, and has been honored with “palmes académiques” for his contribution to education. He is the author of over ten books on architecture and the city.

Christianne Mazzoni is also Architect – Urban Planner, Professor of Architecture and Urban Planning at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture – Strasbourg, Director of the AMUP Research Laboratory, Member of Strasbourg Metropolitan Development Council. She has taught as  a guest  professor in Italy, Germany, France, Spain, America and China. In 2015 she founded the Center for Innovative Mobility at the Tongji University in Shanghai. (ENSAS-SYSTRA-CAUP / Tongji). She runs a large number of research programs funded by the French Ministries of Environment and Culture on Urban Development, Traffic, Green Development, and History of Architecture and the City.

The CMYT Architectural Office, Christianne Mazzoni, Yiannis Tsios, has been awarded among others with the 1st Prize for the Extension of the City Competition Competition for KOSICE, Slovakia (2017). Project award, 2 ° Contest Award for the Marine Front of Messina in Italy, 3rd Award for the Marine Front REGGIO CALABRIA RACE COMPETITION (2012), 1st Prize for the Marine Front of Thessaloniki.
