One year of Kissamos News

Last month, Kissamos News turned one year old.

We started in summer 2015 with the idea to create a virtual place to find information about all the things going on in Kissamos and surrounding area. Using English allows the many people who visit (or live in) this beautiful location, but unfortunately don’t speak enough Greek (yet!), to follow local events anyway.

Over the course of our first year, the team of volunteer editors published something like 400 posts. That’s more than one event per day on average!
As I am writing this, we have 18 events listed just for the next 7 days.

We also now regularly receive requests for information about Kissamos and its events from various parts of the world. To give an idea, over the last few months daily views on the website went from an average of 35/day in February to 170/day in July. We also have a steady following on our Facebook page.
The Newsletter, a weekly summary of upcoming events and some local news, is also serving a steadily growing number of people, right now 118.

Kissamos News also supports a couple of community groups by providing mailing lists, as well as running their news and events, namely:
the Kissamos Walks group and the Kissamos Beach Cleaning team.

In closing, we’d like to extend our thanks for their support to:
Kissamos Municipality, for their general support and for covering the cost of printing stickers to give out to local businesses
Members of the Kissamos Beach Cleaning team, who gave 50 Euros to cover website and domain costs
ISKA, for general support and for giving 50 Euros to cover website and domain costs
All the businesses and people in Kissamos who are generally supportive and help spread the word, also by putting up a Kissamos News sticker!
