Bird Survey – Mid Winter Count in Kissamos on Saturday morning

A group of local birdwatchers is going out to do a bird survey on Saturday. If you’re interested, come along, possibly with binoculars, camera, field notebook etc. We have absolute beginners and expert birders.

This is part of the International Waterbird Census, a worldwide effort to survey mostly water bird populations. All the birders of Greece are going out this weekend to do the same. We will send the data collected to the Hellenic Ornithological Society. See the links below.

We’re meeting in Kissamos (main road) square on Saturday morning at 9am. We’ll cover two areas. First, we’ll drive to the river mouth by the big olive factory between Kissamos and Nopigia (near Mythimna) and do some birdwatching there. Then we’ll move on to the area behind Viglia beach, and walk and spot around Kalyviani. We’re planning to be out probably until lunch time.
