“This year’s Festival program is built around the concept of duality:
each concert presents works representing both the ‘old’ (Classicism and Romanticism) and the ‘new’ (the 20th century), while the relationship between them becomes a dynamic dialogue of contrast, expansion, subversion and complementarity.”

The Festival encompasses an exceptionally broad spectrum of composers, historical periods and aesthetic worlds. The string quintet occupies a central place, with four masterpieces by leading composers of the 18th and 19th centuries – Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Schubert, Felix Mendelssohn and Johannes Brahms – featured across four separate evenings. At the same time, the innovations of the 20th century are prominently represented through performances of imaginative works by Bohuslav Martinů, Francis Poulenc, Béla Bartók, Zoltán Kodály, Nikos Skalkottas, Dmitri Shostakovich and Olli Mustonen.” (Programme notes)

14th Chamber Music Festival

Lydia

I'm Austrian living in Tavronitis, love nature, music, good books, sunsets, the sea, travelling, socializing and more. I came to Crete as a student in the early 70s, exploring the west and southwest of the island with friends by motorbike. When you are young everything is important and, there are lots of things to do...I did. Job, family, children, travelling the world. But I never lost my love for Crete for a minute. And nine years ago I ended up in this convenient corner of Crete, not only for holidays, but to stay and haven't regretted it for a minute.
