Upcoming concerts in July in Chania (6/7), Alikianos (10/7), Vamos (20/7)

Maria Manousaki, one of Greece’s most versatile musicians, violinist, composer and educator, is performing with various ensembles throughout July and organises the concerts on 6th July and 20th July.

6th July:

WHERE: Archeological Museum Café, Skra 15, Halepa, Chania
WHEN: 6th July at 21.00
Admission: free
Maria Manousaki is organizing this concert with the fantastic Turkish vocalist Elif Sanchez, Lebanese-Swiss violinist Delaney Stöckli, and Greek jazz violinist Orestis Krikonis performing live at the Café of the Archaeological Museum of Chania.
This trio delivers an intimate, cross-cultural musical experience that blends Turkish traditional melodies, Latin-American jazz, and Mediterranean folk music.

10th July:
TETRAICHO will be performing in Alikianos in the garden of the church Saint George ( Άγιος Γεώργιος ). Music from around Greece with some “extra cherries on the top”.

TETRAICHO (Τετράηχο, meaning “Four Sounds”) is a vibrant, innovative Cretan crossover music quartet. The band is highly regarded for blending raw, traditional Greek folk music with jazz improvisation, Balkan melodies

The group features a unique acoustic configuration of three virtuoso violinists and one master lute (laouto) player:

“Strings that sing the island” with the Maria Manousaki Quartet from Athens. Violinist and festival curator Maria Manousaki leads her quartet in an intimate evening of original compositions a, celebrating the spirit of Crete.
 This evening’s music will be focused on all of Maria Manousaki’s  previous albums.

“The Groove Equation”

Dimitris Verdinoglou – Maria Manousaki’s pianist from Athens and Michael Evdemon, her bass player from Athens performing together with exceptional drummer Giannis Parerakis.
They will be performing groovy soul music.

Details about the concert in Rogdia, south of Vlatos on 24th July and the absolute highlight at the Aptera Fortress on 25th July will follow.

I came to Crete as a student in the early 70s, exploring the west and southwest of the island with friends by motorbike. When you are young everything is important and, there are lots of things to do...I did. Job, family,children, travelling the world. But I never lost my love for Crete for a minute. And nine years ago I ended up in this convenient corner of Crete, not only for holidays, but to stay and haven't regretted it for a minute.
