25th November 2025: International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women – awareness raising actions in Chania. Παγκόσμια Ημέρα Εξάλειψης της Βίας κατά των Γυναικών εορτάζεται κάθε χρόνο στις 25 Νοεμβρίου.
Raising awareness for violence against women and girls – a series of awareness-raising actions will be carried out in Chania, highlighting and addressing the phenomenon of violence in all its forms.
On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, on November 25, the Municipality of Chania, Directorate of Social Protection, Department of Social Policy and Equality, Women’s Hostel, emphasize the need for prevention, comprehensive support and protection of women from the multifaceted violence they experience in the family, at the workplace , in every aspect of social life.
• The Lighthouse in the Venetian Port of Chania, will be lit in orange on November 25
The color orange symbolizes a non-violent future and is intended to raise awareness
of gender-based violence.
• The creation of a “Wall of Hope” on November 25 in front of the Chania City Hall, through which citizens of the local community will have the opportunity to send their own message about violence against women.
At the same time, from 10:00 to 13:00, information will be provided with the aim of prevention and awareness on this issue, distribution of leaflets, etc.
• The screening of a spot for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women
outside the KAM on the topic of gender-based violence.
• A series of speeches will be held in secondary schools on the topic: “Myths and stereotypes
about gender-based violence and gender roles”.
• Professionals in the Health Centers of the Prefecture, will hold informational meetings during which the way the Structure operates, the services it offers, as well as the ways of detecting incidents of violence will be presented with the aim of joint cooperation on the prevention and treatment of gender-based violence and the support of its victims.
• The participation of scientific staff in various actions and events on the issue of violence against women, which are carried out by local community organizations and associations.
