Summer cinema in Kontomari – 11th June until 17th September

Every Wednesday throughout the  summer we have an appointment at the village square of Kontomari, next to the hall of the Cultural Cub, from 11th June onwards after 20:30 for street food tastings, and at 21:00 the screenings will begin.
Free entrance.

Today’s society may not often have people’s appointments in a village square, may not have places to talk to the elders and smile with children. These are exactly the ingredients we want the Cinema all’ aperto to have in Kontomari.

25th June:
The Luthier (Ο Οργανοποιός) – A documentary about the magic of music and the power of dreams.

Synopsis:
How paradoxical does it sound that some of the world’s best flamenco guitars are made in a small village in Serres by a Greek luthier? Even more so, that this very man envisions a grand music festival in a place where flamenco is virtually unknown? The isolation of rural Greece, combined with the unique and often solitary daily life of a musical instrument maker, shapes a fascinating reality—one that surprises through its sheer simplicity. This is a portrait that balances between solitude, creativity, and the small pleasures of village life, ultimately achieving global recognition. A documentary infused with elements of fiction and historical insights, transporting us into the world of flamenco. As we journey from the Greek countryside to international cities and back again, we witness the fusion of cultures and musical traditions. The passion of the luthier and his friends will be the driving force that helps them overcome every obstacle and turn their dream into reality.

I'm Austrian living in Tavronitis, love nature, music, good books, sunsets, the sea, travelling, socializing and more. I came to Crete as a student in the early 70s, exploring the west and southwest of the island with friends by motorbike. When you are young everything is important and, there are lots of things to do...I did. Job, family, children, travelling the world. But I never lost my love for Crete for a minute. And nine years ago I ended up in this convenient corner of Crete, not only for holidays, but to stay and haven't regretted it for a minute.
