Internationally acclaimed violinist and composer Maria Manousaki returns with Behind Closed Doors, her third solo album and a powerful statement in contemporary world jazz. As a prominent female artist in the Greek jazz scene, Manousaki has carved out a distinct musical voice, blending the rich traditions of Cretan music with modern jazz and global influences.

Featuring five original orchestral compositions, a haunting reimagining of a Xylouris song performed by Stratis Skarakis, and an unexpected reinterpretation of The Cure, Behind Closed Doors showcases Manousaki’s ability to create a bold, cinematic, and emotionally charged soundscape centered around the violin.

Produced and co-arranged by longtime collaborator Petros Klampanis—bassist, producer, and founder of PKmusik, who also produced her previous albums Hidden Trails and Sole Voyage—this record continues their shared vision of fusing tradition with innovation.

Her ensemble, includes Dimitris Verdinoglou (piano), Michael Evdemon (bass), Alekos Roupas (percussion), and guests.

I'm Austrian living in Tavronitis, love nature, music, good books, sunsets, the sea, travelling, socializing and more. I came to Crete as a student in the early 70s, exploring the west and southwest of the island with friends by motorbike. When you are young everything is important and, there are lots of things to do...I did. Job, family, children, travelling the world. But I never lost my love for Crete for a minute. And nine years ago I ended up in this convenient corner of Crete, not only for holidays, but to stay and haven't regretted it for a minute.
