Med 25 Le Bel Espoir – “The place of women in the Mediterranean” – Chania 8th – 11th May
The Med 25 Le Bel Espoir is a school ship sailing for peace in the Mediterranean – a sailing journey across the Mediterranean to foster dialogue on peace and migration.
It will dock in Chania on 8th May and will remain in the old port until 11th May.
Friday, 9th May, 16.30:
open discussion at the at Mikis Theodorakis Theatre on the topic: “The place of women in the Mediterranean.”
19.00 behind the Giali Tsamisi Mosque (Hasan-Pascha-Mosque):,
the Peace Ceremony (End of World War II/Europe Day) will take place, where young people will deliver their own message of Peace, followed by traditional dances.
The idea was developed after many meetings in Marseille, and the Bel Espoir departed on 1st 2025 for an eight-month voyage.
The ship visits thirty ports throughout the Mediterranean. Each port will host a new group of 25 young people, representing different nationalities, cultures and religions.
Med 25 Le Bel Espoir also aims to rediscover the importance of women’s place in building peace. Their rights and responsibilitiesare a challenge in the balance of societies. Their participation in public life, education and research, in the family, associative, professional andpolitical world reflects the commitment of Mediterranean societies to the dignity of every person and the participation of each person in building justice.
