Inspired by a series of murders by neo-Nazis with victims of eight Turks, a Greek and a German policeman and one of the greatest post-war trials in German history, Fatih Akin skillfully sets a dramatic thriller that shook the audience of the Cannes Film Festival with controversial and his terribly topical theme. His worthy ally, Diane Kruger, in her first German-speaking role, which gives the best interpretation of her career as a woman losing her family to a blind terrorist attack and begins a dark journey through sorrow, anger and thirst for justice.
F. Akin was born in Germany but has Turkish roots. In his films, the lives of German Turks are a recurring theme.
Από το πουθενά, η ζωή της Κάτια καταρρέει όταν ο κουρδικής καταγωγής σύζυγός της, Νούρι και ο μικρός τους γιος, Ρόκο, σκοτώνονται σε μια βομβιστική επίθεση. Με τη βοήθεια φίλων και συγγενών, η Κάτια καταφέρνει να αντέξει το σοκ και προσπαθεί να σταθεί και πάλι στα πόδια της.
Όμως, η αναζήτηση των ενόχων και η διαλεύκανση των κινήτρων πίσω από τη δίχως νόημα τραγωδία περιπλέκει το πένθος της Κάτια και κρατά ανοιχτές τις πληγές της. Ο Ντανίλο, δικηγόρος και καλύτερος φίλος του Νούρι, εκπροσωπεί την Κάτια στη μετέπειτα δίκη ενάντια σε δύο υπόπτους: ένα νεαρό ζευγάρι που κινούνταν σε νεοναζί κύκλους. Η απόφαση του δικαστηρίου φέρνει την Κάτια στα άκρα, αλλά δεν υπάρχει άλλη εναλλακτική: απαιτεί δικαιοσύνη.
