Beach cleaning in Kissamos

On Saturday, the Kissamos beach cleaning team met early in the morning and went off to clean the beach East of town.

The group, about 25 strong, started from Teloneio beach and proceeded to pick up rubbish all the way to Korfalonas, almost to the big olive factory.

The beach was not in bad conditions, rubbish-wise, probably helped by the wind blowing East.

Thanks to such a big number of volunteers, the litter picking felt relatively easy.

The complete absence of bins behind the beach for most of this stretch, however, does not help the situation.

We also saw new evidence of vehicles driving all around, including the areas where sea turtles have made their nests.

Nonetheless, the beach cleaning team has plans to go from the East end of the bay next time, around Nopigia, where we will meet on Sunday morning.
